Science Education Solutions employs, consults with, and collaborates with the following individuals

Michelle K Hall, President

Science Education Solutions

Michelle is a geophysicist and science educator who has worked in both industry and academia. Her company promotes science and technology literacy. The company has program development and management expertise in scientist-teacher partnerships, curriculum development, K-16 teacher professional development and experience providing science research experiences for science teachers and students. When not working she enjoys running, reading and cooking.

Anne K Huth

Research Scientist

Anne Huth is currently developing a set of NSF-funded high-school curriculum that encourages students to explore watershed health and vulnerability across many different landscapes using MyWorld GIS and Google Earth tools. The curriculum maintains an emphasis on wildfires and watershed response in southwestern U.S. watersheds. She is also involved in the field-testing and outreach aspect of the resources. Collaboration with science experts at the University of Arizona, U.S. Forest Service, and CUAHSI is an integral part of her current work, to ensure new scientific discoveries are appropriately incorporated into the learning resources. Over the past 4 years, she has participated in development and field testing of a series of college- and high-school-level GIS-based Investigations of Earth Science (Hall-Wallace et al., 2003, 2004, 2007). As a graduate student, Dr. Huth was actively involved in outreach to local teachers and classrooms through the NSF-funded GLOBE and GK-12 CATTS programs. She received her Ph.D. in hydrology at the University of Arizona, focusing her research on hydrograph separation and N-cycling in snowmelt-dominated environments and in semiarid streams during monsoon flood flow in the Southwest

Tammy K Bravo

Website Design

Tammy is a geophysicist, programmer, and educator. She is completing her Ph.D. in geophysics at Indiana University, focusing her research on imaging the Caribbean - South American Plate Boundary in Venezuela. She has worked in seismology outreach for the last 8 years and is currently leading the Seismometers in Schools program for IRIS.

Mike Mayhew

Senior Research Scientist

Following early career phases in academia and at NASA, Mike spent many years as a program manager in geophysics, and later geoscience education at the National Science Foundation. His chief interest is in fostering public understanding of science. He travels regularly to New Mexico from his home in Ocean City, Maryland.

Elizabeth Gilbertson

Elizabeth comes to New Mexico from Manhattan Kansas where she studied at Kansas State University to earn her Masters Degree in Physics. While she was there, Elizabeth also completed a Teaching Certificate in Secondary Education for Physics and Earth & Space Science. Elizabeth enjoys an array of activities including gardening, martial arts, and playing games with friends. She and her husband own two cats and are looking forward to starting a new life in Los Alamos.

Nalisha Johnson

Nalisha is new to New Mexico having moved here from the Willamette Valley in Oregon, where she recently studied Science Education at Oregon State University. Prior to becoming a teacher, she worked as a researcher in chemistry, antiviral drug manufacturing and aquatic toxicology labs. Nalisha loves being able to combine her love of science with interacting and working with youth. Her interests include reading, cooking and running the beautiful New Mexico trails with her dog.

Scott Walker

Research Scientist

Scott started working with GIS in 1991 with the state of Arizona, and earned his M.A. in Geography from Northern Arizona University in 1996. After a two-year stint as a GIS coordinator at Point Reyes National Seashore in California, he moved back to Arizona to develop GIS-based educational curricula on topics in the earth and environmental sciences at the University of Arizona. A GIS teaching position at NAU, and a library position at Oregon State University came next, with Scott joining the Harvard Map Collection in the fall of 2006 as their digital cartography / GIS specialist.

Jennifer Weeks

Research Scientist

Jennifer is an ecologist and science educator. After receiving a bachelor's degree in Biological Science at Florida State University, she earned her doctorate in ecology and evolutionary biology with minors in both entomology and science education at the University of Arizona. Along the way, she has worked as a plant ecologist for non-profit and government organizations and taught a diversity of topics ranging including ecology, marine biology, and evolution to audiences ranging from elementary to college students. She is currently an independent consultant for Science Education Solutions, developing curricula that utilize GIS technology to teach earth science.
